Lava shells are a natural Tiger Clam Shell originating from the Philippines.  The shells have a hole in them which will accept a special sachet containing, algae, minerals and dried sea kelp.  A liquid activator is then introduced into the shell.  A completely safe chemical reaction then occurs inside the shell, which generates heat.  The heat created in the shell can last between 30 minutes and one hour.  The therapist then holds the heated shell in the palm of their hand and using light sweeping massage strokes, gives a relaxing, soothing massage to the client.
